What is VORS ?

The Variation Order Reducing and Solution (VORS) model has been developed to streamline processes within the construction industry by minimizing variation orders by identifying, avoiding, and resolving potential variation factors. VORS is designed to benefit the three primary stakeholders in the construction field—Owners, Consultants, and Contractors—by encouraging a proactive approach to addressing the causes and factors of variation orders. This allows issues to be either prevented from the outset or detected and resolved efficiently. The model is grounded in extensive research and surveys conducted by Engineer Omar Magdy Fadl as part of his Ph.D. studies.

What is Variation Order ?

Variation orders are a prevalent occurrence in construction projects worldwide. They often arise during the execution of construction activities and frequently result in disputes among the involved parties.

Time and cost overruns are common challenges in construction projects, often stemming from variation orders. These variations can lead to significant issues and disputes among the parties involved. Therefore, it is crucial to thoroughly examine the primary causes of variation orders and implement strategies to identify and control them. Failure to reach an agreement between project stakeholders may escalate into claims and disputes, negatively impacting project progress and jeopardizing its timely and budget-compliant completion. Key causes of variation orders include equipment unavailability, inadequate labor, design complexities, and changes in project scope. Such variations primarily result in increased project costs and delays in completion timelines.
